The weekly “Lectionary Kick-Start” podcast program is doing just that. Produced by Concordia Seminary and hosted by Jessica Bordeleau, this podcast is conversational and approachable, with homiletics professors Rev. Dr. David Schmitt and Rev. Dr. Peter Nafzger sharing their thoughts and expertise on the upcoming weekend’s lectionary texts.

While the episodes are geared toward pastors planning for their upcoming sermons, laypeople have found that it helps them prepare for Sunday worship just the same. Steeping your mind in God’s Word early in the week is not only a great foundation for listening to the upcoming Sunday’s sermon, but it will also have you ruminating on the texts all week.

Rev. Tom Eggebrecht, senior vice president of Ministry Solutions for Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF), shared how he uses the “Lectionary Kick-Start” podcast as part of his devotional life and as a way to prepare for Sunday worship. “I often seem to learn new or surprising insights into the weekly lectionary and find joy and comfort in the Gospel as it is presented in winsome ways,” he said. “It is easy to understand, and the personalities of the hosts make it a fun listen.”
